This plan is for parents with a high schooler, and maybe younger siblings, who want to see East Texas A&M University's main campus in Commerce, northeast of Dallas.
ETAMU's Welcome Center is at 2104 University Dr., Commerce, TX 75428; the university's mailing address is 2600 W. Neal St.

Tours run on weekdays, with a limited number of Saturday tours.
Plan ahead: registration and timing
Advance registration is required. Book on ETAMU's campus tour calendar and pick your date and time there.
After you schedule, ETAMU sends a confirmation email with directions to campus and parking information; if you don't get it, email CampusVisits@etamu.edu.
To request ADA accommodations, email your needs to CampusVisits@etamu.edu two days before your visit.

ETAMU's directions page points visitors to the Welcome Center at 2104 University Dr.; your confirmation email has the exact meeting details for your tour.
Visitor parking
ETAMU's Campus Visits page says you can park for 30 minutes in front of the McDowell Administration Building; to stay longer, stop at the cashier's window just inside its front entrance for a complimentary visitor's permit.
The university police parking page says guests are required to purchase a visitor parking permit, at the McDowell Administration Building or online, so check both pages and your confirmation email before your visit.
All ETAMU parking permits are virtual and tied to your license plate.
Getting there
The Welcome Center area is about 22 minutes by car from the Greenville hotels and about 2 minutes by car, or a 16-minute walk, from the Magnuson Hotel in Commerce, with no traffic.
What to know
Ask about Mane Event if you want to see the rec center and residence halls and meet faculty and staff.
The Lion's Mane Café in the Rayburn Student Center is an easy on-campus stop.

About 41 minutes by car from campus with no traffic: fish, swim, paddle, hike, bike and picnic, with kayak rentals at the park store. Entrance is $5 per adult per day and free for children 12 and under. Park phone: (903) 945-5256.
Plan your visitor permit before you park: ETAMU's pages list a 30-minute spot in front of McDowell, a complimentary permit from the McDowell cashier's window and a purchased visitor permit, so follow your confirmation email.
Flying in and out
DFW is about 1 hour 40 minutes from campus by car with no traffic, and Dallas Love Field is about 1 hour 10 minutes from the Greenville hotels.

8. Student-athlete recruiting visits
For families whose student hopes to play a college sport. Rules below are the NCAA's; each school's links were checked Oct 26, 2026.
Coaches arrange the recruiting part of a visit, not the admissions office. The tour sign-ups in this guide are for the regular family visit. An official (school-paid) visit is offered by the school, and contact with coaches follows NCAA rules that vary by division, sport and grade level.
Start with your sport's questionnaire, then email the coaches. The NCAA suggests emailing coaches with your achievements, highlight videos and interest in their program, including your name, position, NCAA ID and graduation year.

RecruitingWe found no department-wide recruiting page. Look for a questionnaire on your sport's team page at the athletics site ↗, or email the coaches.
Unofficial visit: any campus visit you or your family pay for. You can take as many as you like; in Divisions I and II each one has to come after the first permissible date for your sport.
Official visit: a visit paid for by the school. Each school can offer your student only one. Before a Division I official visit, your student must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center, be on the school's institutional request list, and the school must have their high school transcripts.
Division I (East Texas A&M University): on an official visit the school can pay for travel for the student and up to two family members, lodging, up to three meals a day for the student and up to four family members, and up to $60 a person in entertainment, including five home-game tickets. On an unofficial visit there are no free meals, but the school can give up to three home-game tickets. Division I uses recruiting calendars with contact, evaluation, quiet and dead periods; in a dead period, no in-person contact and no visits.
Rules change. Confirm with the coach, or check the NCAA's recruiting page and recruiting calendars, before you plan dates.
Planning around the season
Check each school's athletics schedule (linked above) before you pick dates, so a coach meeting doesn't land on a road trip or game day for your sport.
Our recommendation, not a school rule: ask the coach whether they can line up an admissions session or tour around your meeting. If not, book the regular family tour yourself through the official sign-up links in this guide, and leave time between the two.
