1. Who this guide is for

This plan is for parents flying in with a high schooler, and maybe younger siblings, to see Florida State, with an afternoon for Tallahassee's parks and food.[S2][S6]

Tallahassee is in the Eastern Time Zone, while other parts of the Florida Panhandle use Central Time, so double-check your session time if you're driving in from the west.[S4]

Why this order

  • Arrive the day before and stay in CollegeTown, which sits across from FSU.[S6]
  • Visit day: an in-person information session, then a guided walking tour of campus. Add the Dorman Hall showroom if you want to see a residence hall.[S2]
  • Optional second school: Florida A&M University (FAMU) is about 9 minutes away by car.[S12]
Tour availability varies by season.
  • Dates appear only in the portal. Tours often reach capacity, so FSU recommends registering several weeks ahead.[S2]
  • Walk-ins can't join a guided tour, but the Visitor Center can set you up with a self-guided tour.[S2]
  • Tours continue in the rain but may be delayed or canceled in severe weather.[S2]

2. The suggested 1-day plan

  • Drive times are no-traffic estimates from OpenStreetMap routing, and walking times use OpenStreetMap foot routing, with addresses geocoded by OpenStreetMap Nominatim.[S12][S13][S14]

    • The visitor lot near the Visitor Center is gated; take a ticket and bring it to check-in for validation.[S2][S4]
    Getting there
    • From Hotel Indigo in CollegeTown, the Visitor Center is about a 14-minute walk.[S13]
