Georgia State, UGA and Kennesaw State in 3 Days: An Atlanta, Athens and Kennesaw Drive Trip
A parent-first plan for seeing Georgia State in downtown Atlanta, the University of Georgia in Athens and Kennesaw State from one Midtown Atlanta hotel: official tour sign-ups, visitor parking at every campus, meals between tours, things for siblings and weather by season.

The short version
Trip at a glance
Schools
Georgia State University, downtown Atlanta · University of Georgia, Athens · Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw
Days
3: Georgia State, then UGA, then Kennesaw State on the way back to the airport. Arrive the day before.
Fly into
Atlanta (ATL), about 14 miles from the hotel by road. Fly home from ATL too, about 36 miles from Kennesaw State.
Best base
The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Midtown, about 4 minutes by car from the Georgia State Welcome Center.
Car or transit
Plan on a car: the base is about 69 miles from UGA and about 24 miles from Kennesaw State by road.
Registration
All three schools take tour registration online. UGA requires registration for every guest, and space is limited.
1. Who this guide is for
This plan is for parents with a high schooler, and maybe younger siblings, who want to see three of Georgia's big public universities: Georgia State in downtown Atlanta, the University of Georgia in Athens and Kennesaw State in Kennesaw.
Instead of changing hotels, you sleep at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Midtown Atlanta every night and drive out each morning.
Why this order
Day 1: Georgia State's weekday visits pair an admissions information session with a 90-minute walking tour of its downtown campus, a few minutes from the hotel. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park is about 2 minutes away by car.
Day 2: UGA's Campus Visit Experience is a two-hour visit: a brief admissions presentation, then a 90-minute tour with a campus bus portion and an hour-long walk through historic North Campus.
Day 3: Kennesaw State's tours combine a 30-minute information session with a 60-minute walking tour. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is about 13 minutes away, and ATL is under an hour from there.
Book the UGA visit first
Space is limited, and registration is required for all guests. One student can register with up to two guests.
Without a reservation, UGA points visitors to its self-guided tour map instead.
Tour availability varies by season.
The UGA Visitors Center is closed on Sundays, university holidays and home football Saturdays, so check the football schedule before picking day 2.
Kennesaw State dining locations are closed Nov. 21–28 and Dec. 15–Jan. 9; bring lunch if you visit then.
UGA's Bolton Dining Commons is closed Oct. 30–Nov. 1 for fall break.
2. The suggested 3-day plan
Drive and walk times are no-traffic estimates from OpenStreetMap routing, using addresses geocoded with OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Atlanta traffic on I-75, I-85 and the Downtown Connector can make them much longer. Some legs were measured in one direction only.

Check the UGA football schedule before picking day 2; the Visitors Center is closed on home football Saturdays.
Book the Georgia Tech Hotel for all nights and reserve a rental car.
After each visit, take five minutes to jot down what stood out to your student.
8. Student-athlete recruiting visits
For families whose student hopes to play a college sport. Rules below are the NCAA's; each school's links were checked Oct 26, 2026.
Coaches arrange the recruiting part of a visit, not the admissions office. The tour sign-ups in this guide are for the regular family visit. An official (school-paid) visit is offered by the school, and contact with coaches follows NCAA rules that vary by division, sport and grade level.
Start with your sport's questionnaire, then email the coaches. The NCAA suggests emailing coaches with your achievements, highlight videos and interest in their program, including your name, position, NCAA ID and graduation year.
RecruitingWe found no department-wide recruiting page. Look for a questionnaire on your sport's team page at the athletics site ↗, or email the coaches.
Unofficial visit: any campus visit you or your family pay for. You can take as many as you like; in Divisions I and II each one has to come after the first permissible date for your sport.
Official visit: a visit paid for by the school. Each school can offer your student only one. Before a Division I official visit, your student must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center, be on the school's institutional request list, and the school must have their high school transcripts.
Division I (Georgia State University, University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University): on an official visit the school can pay for travel for the student and up to two family members, lodging, up to three meals a day for the student and up to four family members, and up to $60 a person in entertainment, including five home-game tickets. On an unofficial visit there are no free meals, but the school can give up to three home-game tickets. Division I uses recruiting calendars with contact, evaluation, quiet and dead periods; in a dead period, no in-person contact and no visits.
Rules change. Confirm with the coach, or check the NCAA's recruiting page and recruiting calendars, before you plan dates.
Planning around the season
Check each school's athletics schedule (linked above) before you pick dates, so a coach meeting doesn't land on a road trip or game day for your sport.
Our recommendation, not a school rule: ask the coach whether they can line up an admissions session or tour around your meeting. If not, book the regular family tour yourself through the official sign-up links in this guide, and leave time between the two.
Add your dates and how you're getting there, and we'll pull this guide into one plan: tour sign-up links, the hotel base, parking or airport notes, the route and meals.
