Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and California Baptist in 3 Days: A Southern California Drive Trip
A parent-first plan for seeing Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and California Baptist University from one hotel on the Cal State Fullerton campus: official tour sign-ups, visitor parking at every campus, meals between tours, things for siblings and weather by season.

The short version
Trip at a glance
Schools
California State University, Fullerton · California State University, Northridge · University of California, Riverside · California Baptist University, Riverside
Days
3: Cal State Fullerton, then Cal State Northridge, then UC Riverside and California Baptist on the same day. Arrive the day before.
Fly into
John Wayne Airport (SNA), about 24 minutes from the hotel; Ontario (ONT), about 34 minutes; or LAX, about 51 minutes with no traffic. Ontario is about 25 minutes from both Riverside campuses, so it works well for flying home.
Best base
The Fullerton Marriott at California State University, on the Cal State Fullerton campus, about a 13-minute walk from the Titan Student Union.
Car or transit
Plan on a car: the base is about 56 miles from Cal State Northridge and 38 miles from UC Riverside by road, and Los Angeles traffic can stretch those drives a lot.
Registration
All four schools take tour registration online. Cal State Fullerton asks each student to register separately.
1. Who this guide is for
This plan is for parents with a high schooler, and maybe younger siblings, who want to see four Big West Conference universities in Southern California in one trip: Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge in the San Fernando Valley, and UC Riverside and California Baptist University in Riverside.
Instead of changing hotels, you sleep at the Fullerton Marriott on the Cal State Fullerton campus every night: Fullerton is a walk, and the two Riverside schools are about 8 miles apart, so they fit in one day.
Why this order
Day 1: Cal State Fullerton's daily tours are led by Titan Ambassadors and last about 75 minutes, and you can walk to the starting point from the hotel.
Day 2: Cal State Northridge runs individual and family tours at 2 p.m. Monday–Friday, so there's time for lunch near campus on Reseda Blvd. first.
Day 3: UC Riverside offers daily tours with an optional admissions presentation, and parking is free with a confirmed tour reservation. California Baptist's visit pairs an admissions presentation with a student-led tour, and visitors get a meal ticket for the dining commons.
Leave plenty of time for the drive to Northridge
Northridge is about 56 miles from the hotel, about 1 hour 12 minutes with no traffic. Los Angeles freeway traffic can make it much longer, so leave well before CSUN's 2 p.m. tour.
CSUN requires a parking permit at all times. Buy a daily permit at a dispenser or information booth, or by texting CSUNPKG to 25023.
Tour availability varies by season.
California Baptist has no tours Sept. 8–9. Its offices close at noon on Nov. 24 and reopen Nov. 30, and close from Dec. 22 until Jan. 4.
Cal State Fullerton tours run rain or shine.
Riverside's Festival of Lights is held around the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa downtown, and CBU says the Christmas season is the best time to see the Mission Inn.
CBU's option to meet a professor or sit in on a class is offered in fall and spring only.
2. The suggested 3-day plan
Drive and walk times are no-traffic estimates from OpenStreetMap routing, using addresses geocoded with OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Southern California traffic can make them much longer, especially at rush hour. Some legs were measured in one direction only.
UC Riverside says Ontario Airport is about 20 minutes away in light traffic and up to an hour at rush hour, and LAX can take over three hours in heavy traffic.
All four campuses are on Pacific Time.

Parent checklist

Bring your UCR tour confirmation email for free parking.
Plan how you'll buy CSUN's daily parking permit: a dispenser, an information booth or a text to 25023.
Book the Fullerton Marriott for every night and reserve a rental car.
After each visit, take five minutes to jot down what stood out to your student.
8. Student-athlete recruiting visits
For families whose student hopes to play a college sport. Rules below are the NCAA's; each school's links were checked Oct 26, 2026.
Coaches arrange the recruiting part of a visit, not the admissions office. The tour sign-ups in this guide are for the regular family visit. An official (school-paid) visit is offered by the school, and contact with coaches follows NCAA rules that vary by division, sport and grade level.
Start with your sport's questionnaire, then email the coaches. The NCAA suggests emailing coaches with your achievements, highlight videos and interest in their program, including your name, position, NCAA ID and graduation year.
Unofficial visit: any campus visit you or your family pay for. You can take as many as you like; in Divisions I and II each one has to come after the first permissible date for your sport.
Official visit: a visit paid for by the school. Each school can offer your student only one. Before a Division I official visit, your student must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center, be on the school's institutional request list, and the school must have their high school transcripts.
Division I (California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Northridge, University of California, Riverside and California Baptist University): on an official visit the school can pay for travel for the student and up to two family members, lodging, up to three meals a day for the student and up to four family members, and up to $60 a person in entertainment, including five home-game tickets. On an unofficial visit there are no free meals, but the school can give up to three home-game tickets. Division I uses recruiting calendars with contact, evaluation, quiet and dead periods; in a dead period, no in-person contact and no visits.
Rules change. Confirm with the coach, or check the NCAA's recruiting page and recruiting calendars, before you plan dates.
Planning around the season
Check each school's athletics schedule (linked above) before you pick dates, so a coach meeting doesn't land on a road trip or game day for your sport.
Our recommendation, not a school rule: ask the coach whether they can line up an admissions session or tour around your meeting. If not, book the regular family tour yourself through the official sign-up links in this guide, and leave time between the two.
Add your dates and how you're getting there, and we'll pull this guide into one plan: tour sign-up links, the hotel base, parking or airport notes, the route and meals.
