1. Who this guide is for
This plan is for parents bringing a high schooler, and maybe younger siblings, to see the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, home of the Phoenix, on a 700-acre bay-shore campus.
UWGB's Weekday Visit is about two hours: a 30-minute presentation on UW-Green Bay and the admissions process, then a 90-minute walking tour led by a current student.
Why this order
Day 1: fly into Green Bay Austin Straubel International and reach a downtown hotel in about 19 minutes, with no traffic.
Day 2: UWGB's Weekday Visit, with a student-led tour of academic buildings, residence halls, the Cofrin Library, the Sports & Rec Center, Student Services and the Union.
With extra time, the Neville Public Museum is a short walk from the downtown hotels and the Children's Museum of Green Bay is about 9 minutes from campus.
Plan ahead: registration and timing
Sign up with the form on UWGB's Weekday Visit page. Weekday Visits run Monday through Friday except holidays, with two tour times most weekdays; you can bring up to 2 guests besides the student.
Hoping to see campus busy with students? UWGB suggests planning around Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 26–27) and Winter Recess (Dec. 23 to Jan. 22).
Road construction may slow trips near campus, including on I-43 and the Leo Frigo Bridge; UWGB says to allow extra travel time.
Other options: a 1.5-hour Saturday Tour one Saturday a month, 2-hour Major-Focused Tours on various fall Fridays, group visits, a one-on-one admissions meeting (UWGB's low-sensory option) or the 360° virtual tour.
Tour availability varies by season.
Winters are cold and snowy: January averages about 26°F highs and 11°F lows at Green Bay Austin Straubel, with about 14.3 inches of snow.
Summers are mild: July averages about 81°F highs and 60°F lows, and June is the wettest month at about 4.1 inches.
Fall cools quickly for walking campus: September averages about 72°F highs, October about 58°F and November about 44°F.
Check the Phoenix schedule before you book if you'd like to catch a game.

8. Student-athlete recruiting visits
For families whose student hopes to play a college sport. Rules below are the NCAA's; each school's links were checked Oct 26, 2026.
Coaches arrange the recruiting part of a visit, not the admissions office. The tour sign-ups in this guide are for the regular family visit. An official (school-paid) visit is offered by the school, and contact with coaches follows NCAA rules that vary by division, sport and grade level.
Start with your sport's questionnaire, then email the coaches. The NCAA suggests emailing coaches with your achievements, highlight videos and interest in their program, including your name, position, NCAA ID and graduation year.
1 Division I
Athletics
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
NCAA Division I Horizon League
RecruitingWe found no department-wide recruiting page. Look for a questionnaire on your sport's team page at the athletics site ↗, or email the coaches.
Unofficial visit: any campus visit you or your family pay for. You can take as many as you like; in Divisions I and II each one has to come after the first permissible date for your sport.
Official visit: a visit paid for by the school. Each school can offer your student only one. Before a Division I official visit, your student must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center, be on the school's institutional request list, and the school must have their high school transcripts.
Division I (University of Wisconsin-Green Bay): on an official visit the school can pay for travel for the student and up to two family members, lodging, up to three meals a day for the student and up to four family members, and up to $60 a person in entertainment, including five home-game tickets. On an unofficial visit there are no free meals, but the school can give up to three home-game tickets. Division I uses recruiting calendars with contact, evaluation, quiet and dead periods; in a dead period, no in-person contact and no visits.
Rules change. Confirm with the coach, or check the NCAA's recruiting page and recruiting calendars, before you plan dates.
Planning around the season
Check each school's athletics schedule (linked above) before you pick dates, so a coach meeting doesn't land on a road trip or game day for your sport.
Our recommendation, not a school rule: ask the coach whether they can line up an admissions session or tour around your meeting. If not, book the regular family tour yourself through the official sign-up links in this guide, and leave time between the two.
Add your dates and how you're getting there, and we'll pull this guide into one plan: tour sign-up links, the hotel base, parking or airport notes, the route and meals.
